As you may know, until recently The Winnicott Foundation has been run with a very small staff. Despite this we have achieved a huge amount over the last few years, including: upgrading all of the incubators, refurbishing the parents’ accommodation, funding staff training and supporting families at both our sites (at St Mary’s Hospital and at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital). However, we want to do even more!
The Winnicott Foundation has worked side by side with COSMIC for a number of years, and we believe that this merger offers us an opportunity to increase the support we collectively offer to the thousands of babies and children treated every year the Intensive Care Units of Imperial Trust. By combining our work with that of COSMIC’s we will be able to reduce our overheads and scale our operations. We can then expand our presence on the wards, increase our fundraising activities, communicate better with our supporters and ultimately better serve the Neonatal Units.
We have been working with COSMIC’s Trustees to create one, new legal entity, with shared objectives and a single merged Board containing former Trustees of both charities. We have decided to adopt the COSMIC name, however there will be new branding and a new strap-line: “Caring for babies and children in intensive care: @StMary’s @QueenCharlotte’s”.
We hope to complete the legal stages of the merger early this year with a view to updating all external communications by the beginning of Spring.
We want to reassure you we will continue to provide all the vital services that the Winnicott Foundation currently offers. Providing family support, funding staff training and purchasing new equipment for the Neonatal Units will remain key activities for the new charity.
We are very excited about this merger. The Winnicott Foundation and COSMIC have always shared the goal of providing extraordinary care to children in Intensive Care and to and their families – going above and beyond that which the NHS could afford to provide on its own. We know that working together we will be able to do even more.
